Student Spotlight: Swathi Vallabhajosyula, The Ohio State University
On “Smart Scheduler, an Intelligence for Resource Optimization”

AIVO recently caught up with Swathi Vallabhajosyula, PhD candidate and Graduate Research Assistant at The Ohio State University (OSU), who specializes in AI for High-Performance Computing (HPC) Resource Provisioning. We discussed her work with the AI Institute for Intelligent Cyberinfrastructure with Computational Learning in the Environment (ICICLE) on the Smart Scheduler, an intelligence for resource optimization.

“My journey with systems began long before I formally entered the field of computer science. From my early fascination with Microsoft tools and learning the power of automation through formulas, I developed a deep curiosity about how systems operate and how they can simplify human effort.”

AIVO Workshop at AERA Symposium

The “Cross-Cutting Research across Three NSF-funded National AI Institutes on Education” session at the recent American Education Research Association (AERA) Symposium in Colorado featured research from three AI Institutes – AI Institute for Student-AI Teaming (iSAT), AI Institute for Engaged Learning (EngageAI), and AI-ALOE.

Speakers included Drs.:

  • Chris Dede, AI-ALOE (Chair)
  • Blair Lehman, INVITE (Discussant)
  • Thomas Breideband, iSAT
  • James Lester, EngageAI
  • Ashok Goel, AI-ALOE

Some 90 attendees heard about the three Institutes’ work in the areas of AI-based agents that interact with instructors and learners, participatory design with users, a focus on motivation as well as learning, ethical use of AI, and modification of initial research plans to include the rapid evolution of generative AI

It was a lively discussion, with many coming up afterwards to talk with the speakers!
