Innovation through Capacity Building and Partnerships
Program
The NSF ExpandAI program includes a track for minority serving institutions and AI institutes to propose together new partnerships. ExpandAI program information can be found at the official program page.
The National Science Foundation and its partners support the continued growth of a broad and diverse interdisciplinary research community for the advancement of AI and AI-powered innovation, providing a unique opportunity to broadly promote the NSF vision and core values, especially inclusion and collaboration. The Expanding AI Innovation through Capacity Building and Partnerships (ExpandAI) program aims to significantly broaden participation in AI research, education, and workforce development through capacity development projects and through partnerships within the National AI Research Institutes ecosystem.
ExpandAI Office hours are provided for your convenience. NSF Program Directors representing different categories of MSIs will be available on the days and times listed to answer your questions about the program. Please provide us with information about yourself and your availability to serve as reviewer for ExpandAI program.
Proposals on Track 1 (Capacity Building Pilots) will be reviewed on an ad hoc basis and do not require expertise in AI.
Proposals on Track 2 (ExpandAI Partnerships) will be reviewed on virtual panels and will require AI expertise.
We are recruiting reviewers for both Track 1 and Track 2 of the program.
Note: If you have submitted a proposal as a principal investigator, co-principal investigator, or project participant (evaluator, advisory board member, collaborator, etc.) for ExpandAI, you are not eligible to serve as a reviewer.
Listed on this page are the primary institute points of contact for inquiries about potential ExpandAI partnerships.
It is recommended that initial ExpandAI inquiries to AI Institutes describe a proposed theme or focus for collaboration and any other initial “partnership goals” that might form the basis for a Concept Outline as described in the solicitation. This will help all prospective partners determine if there are complementary goals and a basis for development of a shared “Partnership Roadmap” in an eventual ExpandAI PARTNER proposal.
