AI for Agriculture
Innovation across the field of agriculture is necessary to continue to reach the required yields for feeding an expanding global population. Current agricultural production contributes to or relies on soil degeneration, nitrogen and chemical runoff, greenhouse gas emissions, animal welfare concerns, and unsustainable labor needs. The agriculture domain has a wealth of data heterogeneity, complex and unique environments, domain-specific knowledge ideal for advancing foundational AI research with real world applications.
The AI for Agriculture special interest group is made up of members from all 5 USDA-NIFA funded National AI Institutes as well as input from NSF funded institutes with an interest in addressing challenges within Agriculture.
Members include:
- AI Institute for Transforming Workforce & Decision Support (AgAID)
- AI Institute for Climate-Land Interactions, Mitigation, Adaptation, Tradeoffs and Economy (AI-CLIMATE)
- Artificial Intelligence for Future Agricultural Resilience, Management, and Sustainability (AIFARMS)
- AI Institute for Next Generation Food Systems (AIFS)
- AI Institute for Resilient Agriculture (AIIRA)
