ARNI’s Inaugural Panel: Quantum Computing Meets AI

On April 15, the NSF AI Institute for Artificial and Natural Intelligence hosted (ARNI), hosted its first public-facing event, a panel discussion on “Breakthrough Technologies” that explored the intersections of AI and Quantum Computing.

The panel was organized in collaboration with the New York Hall of Science (NYSCI) and with the support of Columbia Engineering. Panelists included Dario Gil, SVP and Director of Research at IBM, Xaq Pitkow, Associate Director of ARNI and Associate Professor at Carnegie Mellon University, and Jeannette Wing, EVPR and Professor of Computer Science at Columbia University.

During the discussion, panelists discussed the historical significance of current breakthroughs in AI and Computing, the potential tools derived from AI+Quantum Computing tech, and the limitations to employing these tools effectively. They also addressed the importance of diverse perspectives to ensure technologies address humanity’s key problems equitably.
